Before the dawn, the alarm buzzes and I fumble out of bed, the kettle hisses and I sit quietly in the study with my strong coffee as I spend a few precious moments in the Word and devotion. I head downstairs and go for a brisk walk around the park with a friend; we share our joys and concerns, keeping each other accountable. Upon our return I go on with cleaning duties- as they say cleanliness is next to Godliness.
The morning bubbles along until we head to the basement, a sacred space of prayer and meditation as the college community gathers for a time of reflection, intercession, praise and testimony.
The day continues with classes, our minds are stretched, our attitudes are challenged and our opinions are tailored, as we dig deeper into God and His word. From time to time, true gems of truth and wisdom unfold and true beauty is revealed.
Within a week at college, there are many opportunities to share the gospel, to minister to the weak, to preach the Word and walk alongside the hurting. From our involvement in corps placement, starting new ministries through outposts and even pub ministry, we’re privileged to journey with both the pre-converted and the believer.
Here, God has time to change me into who He wants me to be. Here, He can breathe new life and vitality into my soul. Here, I’m truly blessed because I’ve obeyed the call.
If you know that you are being called to sign up for Officership, just do it! There is no reason that we can’t double the number of cadets in the world – double every college’s session. There are around a thousand cadets now. But those are not the only ones called. They are the only ones who responded to the call.
